Oh, overalls. If you follow me on Instagram you know that I have been hunting for the right pair of overalls for several months now, and the hunt has been real! So much so that I’ve had several people who follow me on IG ask me if I ever found the right pair! Ha!
The good news is, I DID! I loved the Madewell overalls first, but was dead set against finding a cheaper pair. Here’s the deal, I didn’t find a cheaper pair. I caved and bought the Madewell ones! These are an investment piece, so it isn’t the fun answer, but ya’ll they are so worth it! Let me tell you why!
First of all when it comes to fit, I have a very long torso. I’m a short person overall, but most of the little height I do have is because of my upper body. This means jeans are always too long and shirts are always too short. This combination does not make me the likely candidate for rompers, jumpers, or one piece bathing suits. I joke that my life motto is “say no to rompers.” No matter how many times I try them on they will never work! I was having this same problem with overalls! They always were too short on the top, making the bib a weird size and making me feel like a giant toddler.
Enter: Madewell.
After trying several pairs on I just found that there weren’t any even comparable to the Madewell pair so I splurged. Here are some things to know about them and why I love them!
Denim.
If there is one thing I will consistently spend the little extra money for its jeans…well and things made out of leather….and sometimes makeup…and…nevermind.
Back to DENIM. It is timeless, worn frequently, and I need it to be reliable. These are! As soon as I put them on I knew they couldn’t be beat. The denim is the perfect blend of soft and stretchy, while still holding their shape.
High Waistband
The waistband is super high so they pull your tummy in a touch and sit on your hips nicely. I think this is the key to them not looking 100% like they are from the 90’s. Low waisted overalls are a throwback, but high waisted overalls are a smidge more polished.
Comfort Factor = Unreal
The previous two points combined make these ridiculously comfortable. No irritating waistband and button digging into the skin on your stomach. No tight irritating fabric.
All about the fit
Because they run small, medium, large, etc. sizing I want to explain the fit a bit. These are advertised as skinny overalls which is super cute and adorable, but they aren’t skinny on everyone. You are essentially trying to pick 1 size to fit 2 different parts of your body which doesn’t work on everyone (me). My recommendation is to go with the size of whichever part of your body is biggest (torso or legs).
So, for example, say you usually wear a size large in pants, but size medium in tops, order a size large. The jeans will fit like skinny jeans and the bib will just be a little bigger which is fine!
If, for example, you usually wear a size medium in tops, and a small in bottoms, order the medium and they will fit like a pair of boyfriend style jeans. (This is what I did)!

Who knew you had to have such a specific formula just to buy a pair of overalls! I’m exhausted!
Madewell did just release a pair at a lower price point. I have heard that they are super similar, but haven’t had a chance to try them myself!
Anyway, all that said, I wear them all the time now. They were definitely worth the money (even if it is stupid) and I plan to share many more ways to style them! Until you are all-over-overalls 😉 get it?
