Happy Saturday! This is Meg here today, friend and employee of Katie! She asked me if I would want to share how I make dried orange garland, which I think is another effort of hers to convince me to start a blog! But I thought it would be fun to share!
Dried orange garland has been one of my favorite traditions the last couple years. I love incorporating natural, homemade decorations throughout my home at Christmas time, something extra cozy about it. Dried oranges can add some extra cheer throughout your home, be a fun activity with your kids, or even be used as toppers for your gifts this season! Not to mention your home will smell amazing!
What you need:
- oranges
- knife
- baking sheet
- parchment paper
- paper towels
- cooling rack
- twine, yarn, or string
- scissors
- needle
How to:
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
- Slice oranges in rounds about 1/4 inch thick.
- Blot the oranges dry with paper towels before arranging on your parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake the orange slices for 3-4 hours, flipping the oranges every 45 minutes to bake evenly. The time will depend on how thick your slices are, when the edges start to brown remove from oven.
- Place oranges on cooling racks. I generally let my oranges sit for 2-3 days in order to allow the centers to fully dry out. If you string the oranges too soon, they will rip.
- Thread the oranges with twine, make a stitch through both sides so that your oranges hang correctly on your garland. Leave extra twine at both ends for hanging.
- Enjoy!
Wishing you all a lovely Christmas season!
Meg
