Yesterday and today have felt like the most normal days I’ve had in a category of entirely abnormal days (if that makes sense). About 7 weeks ago Dan and I began own our personal quarantine assuming COVID was going to pick up and the weeks since have pretty much been crazy! We closed on a house that we signed for a few months back and began gutting it/preparing for renovations. Then the Governor released a Shelter in Place order. Then I was hospitalized for a week, quarantined with my parents away from Dan for 2 weeks while my blood work normalized. All the while Dan and my parents were busting it trying to get the house live-able for us before our apartment lease was up.
Friday marked the start of a new chapter as we officially moved into our first home. We truly couldn’t be happier. It feels so good to have the transition over and to be settled. I am feeling better and better each day, my bloodwork is better than it’s been in months, and we are thankful that all remaining house projects can be done with us living here.
Sunday we woke up utterly exhausted and spent the day napping, reading, and ignoring all the boxes left to unpack. It was absolutely needed and so refreshing! This morning before Dan left for work we looked at each other and said “Okay, it’s time for a routine”. The last few weeks have had anything but routine and we are both people that thrive off of structure. While staying Sheltered in Place might not be our *normal* routine, we want to find ways to thrive in this season that likely won’t be over quickly.
I have an order of operations when it comes to getting back into routine when I’ve fallen out of it. Everything starts with my sleep schedule – that is always step 1 for me. I feel my best when I am asleep by 10pm and awake by 6am so I don’t try and implement any other routines until that one is solid. Thankfully that is the only one that I have stuck to in the last 7 weeks. The next step is cutting gluten out of my diet, the third is exercising (or rather, just moving my body every single day even if it is gentle). I know that I won’t stick to any of them if I start all at once, but I also know the order of importance so I will start at the beginning and work in order. Dan and I are going to brainstorm what other routines might be helpful and healthy for us in order to avoid eating Kraft Mac and Cheese and binging TV until late at night every day which is what we are doing currently.
Anyway, I wanted to share a few iPhone photos from the last few weeks. I love that you can start to see the transformation of the house. It’s got a long way to go and I will post more details later, but it truly already feels like a different house entirely.
