I *love* watching trends come and go. It fascinates me! I’m all about predicting what is up and coming, analyzing what trends I’m gonna hop on, and figuring out how to do it on a budget. As time goes on I’m (hopefully 🥴 lol) refining my style more and more which makes it easier to determine what trends naturally fit with my personal preferences and tastes.
A few years back I took some time to really think about what pieces in my wardrobe I wore the most and felt my best in. I also evaluated what the common themes there were about pieces I purchased but never wore. This helped me identify what I would consider to be my “personal style”. Turns out, I like things to be more timeless (maybe a bit vintage in an Aubrey Hepburn/Doris Day kinda way) and feminine. I like flowy silhouettes that still have a flattering shape, and girly color palates with lots of black and white. When I bought super trendy, boho, or masculine inspired pieces I never got my wear out of them. I liked them on other people, I just didn’t feel myself in them. Now that I have a framework for my style and a few words to describe it I can stay true to myself and make smarter purchasing decisions while embracing the few trends that I truly love – rather than hopping on every bandwagon and feeling like I need a new wardrobe every year.
All that to say, this is just my take on a few trends out right now. I am a firm believer that every one has a unique style and that should be embraced!! If these trends fit the bill for you – rock it! If not, move on! ◡̈ If I’m not sure about a trend I always opt for the most budget friendly option I can find, that way it’s a low commitment! I save my larger purchases for things like jeans that I know I’ll get years of wear out of.
Trends I’m Loving
Vintage Inspired Dresses Okay, this has been growing for the last few seasons and I love it. BECAUSE – it fits the description of what my personal style is! I’m always a fan of dresses but I’ve specifically seen them taking more of a vintage turn – this is a trend I can hop on board with! I have to say, no one does this better than Julie Berolzheimer. The past few seasons I’ve seen these more from high end retailers (way out of my budget!) but this year I’ve been seeing beautiful florals and pastel colored midi length flowy dresses pop up in Target, H&M, on SheIn, etc. Me happy! ◡̈

Straight & Wide Leg Pants/Jeans I will always love a classic skinny jean, but the straight leg/wide leg option is winning me over lately! Not only are they far more comfortable but I love the more casual vibe paired with a dressier top or heel. The whole look just feels classy. To keep these flattering and not frumpy I like a slightly cropped length (showing even just a bit of the ankle makes all the difference) and I like to pair them with a more fitted top or at least do a little front tuck to show your waist.

Matching Sweatsuits This is neither timeless nor classy but it IS functional!! In a year like 2020-21 I’m not surprised at ALL that this is a trend and frankly, I’m HERE for it! Suddenly if I match my sweatshirt to my sweatpants and call them “joggers” I’m considered trendy and I don’t know what I ever did to deserve such a gift from society.
Trends I’m not loving
Bike Shorts There seems to be a revival of 90’s fashion and I’m personally not a fan. Particularly though, I do not understand bike shorts!! Is there something I’m missing here? The pic above is from The Teacher Diva, one of my all very favorite blogs which has me questioning if I’m the crazy one.
Scrunchies Okay, don’t hate me. I am not a fan of scrunchies! A bow, a clip, a headband – yes! Srunchies – meh!
Bucket Hats
Alright, now I have to know your thoughts! How do we feel about these trends? Which do you love, which do you hate? Just because I chose a few to poke at doesn’t mean you can’t love them. If they fit into your style then embrace them! That is what style is all about – sharing what you love with the world!
