Hey wait? Why is this the second time I am posting today? Well, I’m gonna tell ya!
Starting tomorrow, I will be participating in a challenge that pairs fashion and creativity with raising awareness for a cause I really believe in! If you haven’t heard of Dressember start here!
I think the videos say it all. I personally could relate to Blythe in feeling like I don’t have anything to offer. I often hit that same wall feeling like there aren’t ways to help the causes I feel passionate about. I think it is often easy to feel like we are too small to make a difference. Dressember is proof that that is wrong. We are never too small. Each person, voice, and heart is big enough to be a piece of a puzzle, and maybe if enough pieces gather together we can solve it. If doing something as simple as wearing a dress every day can raise awareness and funds for this fight, I’m in! I will be on the team For All the Girls and I hope we are able to reach our fundraising goal! All funds from Dressember will be donated to International Justice Mission and the A21 Campaign. These organizations fight human trafficking by rescuing victims of human trafficking, prosecuting the human traffickers and criminals, strengthening justice systems, and restoring and rehabilitating victims.
So here’s what this is going to look like. Each day rather than throwing on jeans I will wear a dress. An added benefit to this challenge is that I’m hoping it will stretch me creatively by limiting my wardrobe options. I am excited to see how I can style the same dresses I currently own every day for a month. In addition to this there is a whole train of thought I have been toying around with. Capsule wardrobes. Have you heard of these things that are apparently magical? The idea is to limit your wardrobe in order to grow in contentment, and though I’m not ready to commit to a whole 6 months, I am kind of hoping a month of dresses will have the same effect. I’m not going to lie, I think a little “abundance” detox might be a good way for my heart to end the year.
Here are the rules as described by my team leader Maggie.
- a dress every day
- you can wear pants when you are working out, cleaning and staying in the house, sleeping, or if you have a job that requires you to wear pants.
- you can wear skirts, but only over dresses
- you can wear pants, but only under dresses.
