Hey Friends! Happy New Year! Okay…I know it’s February, but it STILL feels like the beginning. This year has been off to a slow start for me and I’m savoring every bit of it. Here is what I’ve been up to.
Slowing Down
Weddings slow down in the winter and I take the chance to organize things, prep taxes, and re-work systems so that things run smoothly in the summer. Also… we rest. It’s needed after the busy months and is SO refreshing. I’m catching up with family, friends, and my favorite tv shows. I’m trying to be less rigid with my calendar, more flexible with my sleep schedule. I’m reading more and wearing the same sweatshirt every day.
Health
December through the first half of January was honestly my best stretch within the last year! When I was hospitalized back in March I was put on a medication for the Ulcers which had some nasty side effects. While it was effective at stopping the bleeding (praise the Lord!) I was ready to get off them come December and immediately started feeling the best I had in well over a year! Unfortunately I didn’t last long before the pain returned (in mid January). I am now trying out a new prescription hoping that will keep the ulcers at bay with fewer side effects. In the meantime the biggest issue is just that the pain keeps me awake at night. Thank goodness for Netflix and my heating pad, and Jesus to keep me company in the wee hours of the night 😊. I am also SO thankful for the timing because this season really is for resting! I’ve been able to take it easy, spend as much time on the couch as necessary, and give my body what it needs. Still devastated that Pizza Hut doesn’t make that list though…
Home
January was the month of musical chairs (well come to think of it December was too. Ha!) I know I rearranged all of our living room furniture at least 4 times…but honestly it might have been more. Our living room has some odd features (a gas stove in the corner) and lacks symmetry (off center doorway and a wall of sliders) which means there is no obvious way to arrange things. I think we’ve *finally* got the right flow…at least for this week! Ha!
This month I also started decorating the office (which has been bare since moving in) and tackled phase 1 of the half bath. I’ll do a whole post on those two areas soon but I gotta say, the half bath was truly a shocking transformation! I’m really glad we decided to dig in that one night at 9pm after watching one too many home design shows.
A break from social media
In May I decided to take a week off Instagram…then I blinked and it was August. In August I got back on and only lasted until November 30th before deciding I needed another break. I have always loved Instagram as a place to collect inspiration and create content, but I think we can all agree it is a different space now. I tend to be an all or nothing type of gal (working on being a little more balanced okay 🙃) and I’m not sure Instagram is something I want to be “all in” on right now. I’m not sure I want to build my business on a platform if I don’t agree with the direction that it is going. I’m wrestling with it a lot in my mind and in prayer, but until I feel more peace and clarity about it I’m just pressing pause. Also…sometimes people on the internet are just too intense for me. There I said it!
In my time away I’ve found myself more creatively inspired, just reaching for the piano instead of my phone. Re-arranging the furniture I do have rather than lusting after the furniture I want to have. I’m not saying it’s forever, and I do love creating content, but for the time being you will find me more on the blog than on the gram.
Since I’m not posting to IG, if you want to be notified with each new blog post, as well as hear about my favorite things, random finds, and scripture I’m loving – be sure to sign up here!
2021 Goals
Believe it or not…I haven’t set a single goal for 2021 yet. I am usually all about the goal setting but right now I’m just taking things day by day, and I’m quite enjoying it. I’ve got a couple ideas but nothing solidified. What about you?
I hope you are all enjoying the start to the New Year. How have things been going for you?
