In the 4.5 years that I’ve been blogging I’ve mentioned my health in bits and pieces, here and there. I was born with a very rare chronic illness that effects everything I do day in and day out, so naturally it comes up occasionally. I have always wanted to dive into it, share the whole story, and be able to speak rawly; however, I have always held back because truthfully, I didn’t know where to start.
Like I said, I was born with it, so it’s kind of a long story! There are years of context, good seasons and bad. Years that have effected my life forever, and years that I never thought would happen. To jump into sharing what life looks like today on the blog without sharing the past felt wrong, but sharing the past also felt intimidating. I am an open book on the topic, and I find it often comes up during in-person conversations. I’ve spent years praying about how best to address this topic on the internet where it can’t be shared as fluidly as within a conversation. What to share, how best to share, and where to jump in.
When Brianne asked me to be on her podcast I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to share a bit more of my story. In a one hour episode I was able to start at the beginning and give a brief overview of my health and the different ways it has impacted my life. There is so so much more than this, but hopefully in sharing these pieces of the story you can get a broader picture of what things look like.
The Brave Fear Podcast is focused on exactly what it sounds like – fear. So we focused primarily on the fears that have come up throughout the course of dealing with this throughout my life. Fears about my worth, fears about the way people see me, fears about supporting myself, fears about being loved by others. I’m excited to have found a starting point for talking about this and hope to share more about my health as time goes on!
