Our first home! This little apartment makes me so dang happy! Dan and I searched high and low for an apartment to move into once we got married and ended up deciding on a less favorable option in honor of the budget. Then, the week we were supposed to sign our lease stumbled upon this one bedroom unit in a historical house in my favorite part of town for the same price. I pretty much pinched myself when we toured it! It has so much charm and character, I want to live in a historical house forever the details just make me so happy! It was renovated right before we moved in (the previous tenant was there for 10 years) by our sweet 80 year old landlord. There isn’t air conditioning (but our window unit does just fine!), and no dishwasher or bathtub, but we can walk to get food, coffee, or drop in a yoga class (although the staircase up to our unit is enough of a workout for me) so what more could you ask for?
This is my first time living out of my parents house and making this place home has been so fun for me. Turns out interior design is much harder than I thought it would be and I have a lot to learn! I am also constantly purging everything we own to make it fit in our small closets. We still re-arrange furniture regularly and there are still odds and ends we want to finish, but I knew if I didn’t stop to take photos and document it in the present I might not ever. We go back and forth daily on how long we want to live here, so I’m deciding to document things while we are still in process! Here is our living room!

This credenza was our first piece of furniture and Dan went through the wringer storing it for 6 months and then getting it up the stairs into our unit. My sister was getting rid of it and gave it to us and I’m never letting it go! We are so thankful for the couch which my Nanny (grandma) was getting rid of! The chairs were the first things Dan and I picked out together. The gallery wall came together one stir crazy week during the polar vortex! The command strips all fell off the wall 3 times over the course of the week!! I’m pretty sure they are permanently glued to the walls now.

The coziest cream blanket and gold candle are both gifts from Meg, she knows me well!
Our front door opens right into the living room so I used a peg rail (inspired by Remodelista) and a basket for shoes to make a little entryway.

My new rule of thumb is basically if you don’t know where to put something, put it in a basket! It allows us to store things in functional places without as much clutter!
We are so thankful for this home filled with things we’ve been able to buy and furniture and decor people have generously gifted us. It feels cozy, and homey, and it’s ours and that’s what I love most!
