I don’t know about you, but for me summer went by all too quickly. I am so thankful for a busy wedding season and the joy my job brings me, but it seems like it went by in a flash! Just like that the air is cooler, the nights are shorter, and fall is coming. Secretly this also makes a little giddy because fall and winter are my favorite season, but I just can’t help but wish for a tiny bit more summer. More time with my friends who were home from college, more time to spend with my nieces and nephews, more time to rest. Less time on Netflix, less time on Instagram, more summer. I have been thinking a lot lately about the importance of slowing down. We can’t control how quickly life goes by, but we can control how much of it we savor. How much of it we truly take in. It seems to me that I have a bad habit of being in a hurry. Hurry to finish these emails, hurry to finish editing, hurry to run errands, but what am I hurrying to? I sat on the deck for a while last night and watched the sunset. I left my cell phone inside (the horror) and just sat there. I know that this seems like it’s not a big deal, but it was to me. I didn’t think about work the whole time, I just sat. Ya know what? It was grand. I came back inside refreshed and amazed by our Creator. I feel slightly ashamed even writing this because it seems so simple, but maybe we all need to just slow down. Pretend life moves at a different pace and maybe it will! Take in each moment instead of letting it whoosh by. I hope that in the coming months I will get better at this, the savoring instead of sprinting. Enjoying instead of hurrying. Maybe then life will slow down too!
