Oh layers, I missed you. Here’s the deal, I don’t really love dressing for summer weather. I like mixing and combining multiple pieces to create a new outfit each day, even if it’s with the sample staple pieces from my wardrobe. In summer, it’s just too dang hot. I wear a sundress almost everyday because it’s lightweight, but still allows me to feel put together and feminine, other than that I’m not a huge fan. I would like to outlaw jean shorts altogether… whose with me?
Now that it is a more bearable temperature outside I am beginning to dress in layers again and I really have missed it. This morning I unpacked my fall/winter clothes and packed away all my tanks, dresses, and flip flops.
Headed into each season I usually do a quick assess of my closet and try to determine what needs to be purchased to complete looks. I jot a few things down in a note on my phone and then start watching for sales. Having a shopping list really helps me stay focused and not just shop for the sake of shopping. It helps me limit my spending and be intentional about what I’m adding to my wardrobe. As Dan and I have been apartment hunting for after the wedding it’s becoming really clear that I need to downsize my closet so I’m trying to be super aware of what I add. I’m already struggling to get rid of things! Hahah! People hold me accountable! I only had a couple things on my list this year, mostly replacements for things that have worn out, but the biggest thing on the list… a sweater blazer.
The J. Crew Sweater Blazer
I first saw Karla Reed (a favorite to follow on Instagram) talking about this in her IG stories and knew it would be the perfect completer piece to many of my fall outfits. It is a bit of a pricer buy, so I watched and waited until the Labor Day Sales. I then pounced on it at 40% off!! In the few weeks since this purchase I have already gotten so much use out of it and can tell it will be worn time and time again in fall and winter! They have so many fun colors but I decided to stick with a classic khaki so that it would go with everything!
It is a heavier weight so it does add warmth. I sized down 2 sizes because I wanted it to be a more structured piece. If you a want a more slouchy relaxed feel I would go with your regular size (or even one size down).
These Abercrombie Jeans have been a huge favorite of mine since picking them up earlier in the summer. They are the best high waisted (and I mean HIGH) jean that I have ever found for my long torso! They are stretchy, but don’t stretch out, and they may have me returning to the store that all my middle school nightmares were made of.
Lastly, I love this little circle monogram necklace from my friend Cindy with Stella & Dot. It has my soon-to-be initials on it and I just love it ◡̈
